For those of you who think that racism is a defeated social issue, you are quite in error. Racism is prevalent in the world and in some areas, it is prevalent even in Christianity.
I was recently drawn to a neo-nazi forum wherein I encountered poor logic such as 'Asians are good at math. But they lack in creativity. Interbreeding with them will cause the extinction of the white race."
I found variations of this statement throughout the forum; replacing Asian with African and so on. In response, I issued a challenge. "Name an act of intelligence, creativity or morality that you could commit which an African could not."
I later indicated that there are theories which suggest that micro-evolution will inevitably change the skin color and genetics of everybody in the world in adaptation of their climate and environment. Therefore embracing or fighting interbreeding render irrelevant practices.
In reflection, I do not think that I received a single polite response. I was a fool to expect such a thing, as those who centralize their lives on a basis of anger scarcely travel asunder of those boundaries.
Though, dealing with inexplicable anger is not unfamiliar territory for anybody who regularly talks with atheists on the internet. It was not anger that bugged me. It was the religious section of the forum, as it preached hate in the name of Jesus.
As I see it, there are only three possible explanations to this.
1) They don't know who Jesus is and 'in Jesus name' is just an empowering expression they use.
2) They know somebody else with the first name 'Jesus'.
3) They have vastly misinterpreted the Bible.
I am inclined toward the third option. I hear the atheist indicate all of the time that the Bible condones racism and that is simply not true. The New Testament does not endorse the race-based slave trading that we understand.
God commanded that the people of Israel welcome foreigners into their home. He also commanded that these foreigners work to repay this hospitality. But it was not unwillful imprisonment. Quite the contrary, it was an act of love, not hate.
Those who were slaves chose to be slaves as they were fed and cared for. There is not a single verse which suggests racism or imprisonment is an acceptable practice.
The race-based slave trading that Americans understand is not what Jesus supports. He commands that those who are slaves need to obey their master, for their master provides them with everything they need. He also commands that their master treats them well.
Widespread indoctrine is precisely why there is so much atheism and hatred toward Christianity. You will only find racism in the Bible if you want to find it; meaning that racists will find it in alignment with their hateful agenda and atheists will find it in alignment with their (sometimes hateful) agenda. But any objective study and understanding will yield nothing other than a message of peace and love.
Could you be adhering to indoctrine? There is only one way to find out. Read the Bible yourself. Forget how everybody tells you to interpret it and interpret it objectively with your own mind.
