Clairvoyance

I find it rather amusing that people are so easily inclined to forget that which does not fit their agenda. They will take the scripture so far out of context, and even reword the scripture.

Consider this. I could certainly write a compelling case for adulterers. I could write an entire article indicating that adultery is not a sin, and perhaps, those who do not have an understanding of the Bible would likely be taken in by it. I could apply the tactics that a psychic uses to justify their case to any sinful action. I will address the scriptures that psychics use to justify their ability.

"Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do shall he do also." John 4:12
I fear that the psychic who applied this scripture to themselves knows little of the work of Jesus Christ. He did not summon the spirits of the dead for information or precognition. He meant only that the fruits of His teachings are good works, not supernatural works! Frankly I have no idea how anybody can draw such a thing from that statement.

"But you shall receive power after the Holy Ghost comes upon you." Acts 1:8
Many of those who claim clairvoyance also claim that they have had it since childhood. If receiving the Holy Spirit also meant receiving clairvoyance, we would all have it! This scripture cannot be applied to psychics unless all psychics have the Holy Spirit, and unless all who have the Holy Spirit are psychic. This is not the case, therefore, the two are mutually exclusive.

"In the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour my Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and daughters shall prophesy, your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams." Acts 2:17
It's a terrible shame that the psychic was too busy looking into a crystal ball to pay attention in English class and learn reading comprehension. This text very clearly says "In the last days..." Clairvoyance is an element that has existed since before Jesus Christ. Further, it says, "...upon ALL flesh." Why do I not have clairvoyance if indeed, that is what this scripture is referring to?

This clairvoyant continues their case as they reword the scripture. They claim that since clairvoyance is an act of the Holy Spirit, to deny clairvoyance is tantamount to committing the unforgivable sin. They say this in spite of the fact that the unforgivable sin is to blaspheme, not to deny. (Read my article titled Blasphemy Against The Holy Spirit) It seems to me that if somebody needs to reword the scripture, they do not have a very compelling argument. Further, if they need to use scare tactics, they again, do not have a very compelling argument!

Are you saying that all visions are unjustifiable, and never from God?
Certainly not. According to Numbers 12:6, the Lord will make Himself known. It is not, however, something that we would describe as clairvoyance, for clairvoyance is traditionally the reception of information from the dead.

These people seem rather convinced that these visions are from God. How do you know that they are not?
In human nature you will find only weakness. If visions or powers were given to somebody from an entity other than God, they would likely be taken in by it. They would go to every length to justify such a practice despite the truth they knew in their hearts.

Those who possess clairvoyance do so because they continue to succumb to temptation, not because they received it upon receiving the Holy Spirit.

The Bible is as clear about clairvoyance as any other sin. To attempt to piece together a bunch of scripture to fit such a cause is tantamount to denying God's will. Should any Christian-psychic apologist stumble upon this page, I challenge you to answer the following verses.

“If a person turns to mediums and necromancers, whoring after them, I will set my face against that person and will cut him off from among his people." Leviticus 20:6

"Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world." John 4:1

"A man or a woman who is a medium or a necromancer shall surely be put to death." Leviticus 20:27

"When you come into the land that the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominable practices of those nations. There shall not be found among you anyone who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer or a charmer or a medium or a necromancer or one who inquires of the dead, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord." Deuteronomy 18:9-12

"And he burned his sons as an offering in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, and used fortune-telling and omens and sorcery, and dealt with mediums and with necromancers. He did much evil in the sight of the Lord, provoking him to anger." 2 Chronicles 33:6

"For they are demonic spirits, performing signs, who go abroad to the kings of the whole world, to assemble them for battle on the great day of God the Almighty." Revelations 16:14

"Having the glory of God, its radiance like a most rare jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal." Revelations 21:11

"You shall not interpret omens or tell fortunes." Leviticus 19:26
