Abortion

I am seeing more frequently, arguments for pro-life and pro-choice. I have not thrown my hat into this ring in several years (before I became a Christian). It appears to me, the objective viewer, that neither camp has really made any progress, but rather, both sides are embracing points that have been raised since the issue of abortion began. It almost appears as though this is a question of differing morality.

Does this issue prove that all morality is subjective, chemical, and individualized? Absolutely not. The primary pro-life argument is that abortion is the murder of a child. The primary pro-choice argument is that a fetus is not a baby until emerges, and this responsibility can be exterminated the discretion (or indiscretion, as it were) of the mother (though I am not sure such a person would describe themselves a mother. Is 'carrier' a better term?). However, both camps hold firm: killing a baby is wrong. They differ only in what constitutes a baby.

It seems though, that the pro-choice side does not argue 'it's not life,' because obviously, that argument would collapse on itself, but rather 'it's not human.' This inherently incorrect assumption is on the basis only that it is small and it does not look like a human. If it were inhuman, then it would stand to reason that at one point, the speaker of such a statement was inhuman. It would suggest that the seed of a human enters the fertilization layer of another human and BAM: a fish. Not only a fish, but a fish that mutates and becomes a human. This phenomenon has occurred not once, nor in a fractional number of births, but in literally every single human birth.

So it would appear that the greatest distinction between an adult human and a fetus is its' level of awareness and its' size. With this being the case, I am inclined to call your attention to the size and awareness of a baby born prematurely. If such a being were to perish before your eyes, how would you respond? If it were your own baby, born prematurely, would you gaze upon it in blind, pitiless indifference?

I should think not. There is no parent in the entire world who would do such a thing. Yet the difference between the consciousness of baby born a few months prematurely, and a baby that is two months old is utterly indistinguishable. (Source).

The difference is exclusively in the parents' state of mind. In one instance, the parents are motivated by love of their young; in the other, they are motivated by love of their selves. Such a boastful, selfish state of mind can lead to very dangerous places. You might even do something crazy like, justify the murder of your baby by saying "Oh... well, it is very small!"

Read as many pro-choice articles as you like. The fact is that you have just made you child's life into a political issue. I have met many parents who regret having an abortion. However, I have never met a parent who regret giving their child life. The answer to "Should I have an abortion?" is rather self-evident, and if the parent forgets themselves for a single minute, they will see the mistake they are making.
